About Melinda

It is a great honor to serve people during their most vulnerable times, and Melinda Smith is dedicated to providing that service as a trusted counselor. She believes everyone will face challenges in life where they need support from a compassionate professional. Melinda balances truth and grace with humor in her counseling approach, creating an environment of safety and trust that fosters growth. Her connections with clients, building relationships, and witnessing their transformation motivate her.

Melinda Smith is a Nationally Board-Certified Art Therapist and a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Colorado. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Art Therapy from Emporia State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in pre-art therapy with coursework in art and psychology from Kansas State University.

Melinda's eclectic approach ensures the right fit for each client, drawing on her extensive experience and specialized training. She has worked in various settings, supporting and guiding multiple individuals. Her additional certifications in parenting education and training in crisis counseling and trauma-informed care enhance her ability to address many client needs.

When Melinda is not at Foundations Counseling, she loves spending time with her family, nurturing plants, being creative, quoting movie lines, and enjoying great food. A native Kansan, she has lived in seven cities across three states and has called Colorado home for over 17 years. Melinda has been married to her husband for 30 years, and they have two sons who currently attend CSU.
