About Kirsten
"The origin of the conflict, frustration, and anxiety we experience does not lie like the world itself but in our distorted conceptions of the world." – Stephen Batchelor.
Kirsten Norr's life experiences have instilled a deep sense of patience and compassion, forming the foundation of her counseling practice, which is rooted in humbled curiosity. Trained in a contemplative approach, she also draws from existential and behavioral modalities, often incorporating holistic techniques. Kirsten is dedicated to making therapy an accessible and beneficial tool for navigating life's complex experiences and transitions. Her love of Buddhism informs her warm and grounding presence, while her New York upbringing provides a space for humor and pragmatic introspection.
Kirsten Norr holds a Master of Arts in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology from Naropa University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of San Diego. She is also a Certified Meditation Instructor in Shamatha-Vipashyana Meditation, enhancing her ability to integrate mindfulness and meditative practices into her therapeutic approach.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Kirsten returned to clinical mental health after a television and documentary career. Between projects that took her around the globe, she taught English at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal, sparking her interest in Buddhist philosophies. This interest catalyzed her return to a profession where she supports people in their emotional growth and well-being journeys.
Kirsten's diverse background enriches her therapeutic practice, allowing her to connect with clients on multiple levels. She has a passion for helping women develop self-compassion, empowerment, and boundaries, and she has spent significant time working with couples to navigate conflicts and maintain strong connections.
Kirsten is inspired to make therapy a transformative experience for her clients. Her compassionate and curious approach ensures that therapy is a safe space for exploration and healing. She helps clients navigate their lives with greater clarity and resilience by integrating contemplative practices with practical strategies.
At Foundations, Kirsten Norr is dedicated to helping you transform your challenges into opportunities for growth. With her extensive expertise and compassionate approach, Kirsten provides a supportive environment where you can heal and thrive.
